Lyrics With A Pulse.

About Millessone:

Millessone is a lyricist at heart who blends spoken word with rap poetry and he writes with social purpose and attitude. Instead of traditional verse and chorus he writes straight, narrative, rhyming verse drawing on themes that inspire, anger and frustrate him. Each piece of work is carefully written with a theme and a message he aims to deliver in a clear and impactful way. Rather than merely using plain spoken word, he writes rhyming narrative lyrics with backing tracks based on personal, social and societal observations and often draws on what he considers repeated and avoidable human mistakes involving oppression, corruption and control in the many forms they take.

The politics of power is never far away in Millessone’s album ‘Torpid State’. He sees the same scenarios play out today as they always seem to have done. The main notable differences are generations’ perception of the world and the technology they have to hand. This was the inspiration for his track ‘All The Same’.

The title of the album and one of the tracks ‘Torpid State’ refers to a state of temporary hibernation some animals will put themselves into in times of danger and scarce resources. The term resonated with Millessone on two levels; that of the creature shutting down in fear and also the reasons behind the fear and scarce resources.

The loudest voices are sometimes the ones who need or want to sow division for selfish and ideological purposes. Millessone tries to cut through the noise with his lyrics and he’ll always use his lyrics and music to punch up and call out those who punch down.

From an early age growing up in Northern Ireland, Miles (Millessone) was very aware of tribal politics and division sown into the fabric of society. ‘They’ were always wrong, whoever ‘They’ were and ‘They’ want to make your life worse. Even if politicians secretly agreed with what their political opponents ware saying, they could never show in public that this was the case. It’s pathetic and causes nothing but stalemate and perpetual division.

While the situation in Northern Ireland is significantly better than during The Troubles, tribal politics remains. This phenomenon is not unique to Northern Ireland and is in large part the inspiration for Millessone’s album Torpid State.

He brings his passion for lyrics and combines it with his frustration with political ineptitude, greed, control and division.

His style blends spoken word and rap poetry with purpose and attitude and he doesn’t skirt around an issue that he is passionate about – he says things as he sees them.

He’ll remind his listeners from time to time that having a sense of humour is so important. Something that autocrats with a fragile ego and who surround themselves with sycophants would do well to understand.
